This is the one where Queen stopped being a loud rock band and became Queen. 1974, the harmonies stacked into something closer to a choir, and Freddie writing about somebody far more elegant than the room he was standing in. Gold and black was the only palette that felt honest. What I was after was the stillness - he's looking straight down the barrel at you, faintly amused, not moving. Nobody remembers Freddie Mercury standing still. That's the version I wanted.
